WE'RE A CLOSE COMMUNITY

The uniqueness of our small campus allows for one-on-one discipleship with the staff and faculty as well as living in a close Christ-focused community of believers. Those who desire to go into full-time ministry will find the training received at ABI to be practical, relevant, and transforming. At ABI, we are a family. The relationships students build here shape their lives for years to come. For single students we have dormitories available with a café where breakfasts and lunches are provided as part of the room and board fees.

WE'RE FAMILY FRIENDLY

ABI is an ideal place for couples and families who are interested in strengthening their relationship with God and each other. With on-campus parks and nursery, ABI is the perfect location for any size family.

WE'RE STRATEGICALLY LOCATED

Overlooking beautiful Kachemak Bay to the vista of rugged peaks and glaciers of the Kenai Mountain range beyond, ABI sits on a 14-acre campus above Homer, Alaska. Our campus is home to a spacious classroom building with an extensive library, our administrative offices, a dormitory with student lounge and cafeteria, and housing for students with families.

WE'RE SERVING OTHERS

When training for life and ministry a commitment to joyful service is as important as academics. Through the local community and short-term mission trips to remote Alaskan native villages students will have the opportunity to grow in their ability to meet the needs of others while learning to work with others.

WHAT ARE THE BELIEFS OF ALASKA BIBLE INSTITUTE?

ABI IS A NON-DENOMINATIONAL, EVANGELICAL, FAITH-BASED, BIBLE TRAINING INSTITUTION.

We stand firmly on the foundation of Scripture (the Bible) and hold it as our ultimate authority. While our staff and faculty may come from different church backgrounds and affiliations this is sure – we are all followers of Jesus Christ and saved by His glorious grace. For further inquiries regarding the doctrinal position of ABI, please feel free to CONTACT US. Applicants having strong opinions on doctrines that have historically been controversial (i.e. having caused division in the Church) need to be sure that they can “agree to disagree”.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF ALASKA BIBLE INSTITUTE?

IN THE FALL OF 1965, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF PASTOR RAY ARNO, THE ALASKA NATIVE BIBLE INSTITUTE BEGAN.

ABI began with the burden of several Alaskan missionaries with a desire to see Alaska Natives grounded in the faith through the teaching of God’s Word amidst close Christian fellowship. In the fall of 1965, under the encouragement of missionary Barbara Crozier and the direction of Pastor Ray Arno, The Alaska Native Bible Institute began. With facilities and finances all but non-existent students were flown in from local villages and housed in rented cabins. In 1971, God made it clear that the school should be available to anyone. With the word “Native” dropped Alaska Bible Institute became one of Alaska's first evangelical colleges. Today, students come from all over the United States and the world to attend Alaska Bible Institute (ABI). November 2015 will mark our 50th year of training and equipping Christians for life and ministry. Since its inception, ABI has seen hundreds of men and women attend and graduate from its Biblical Studies and Christian Ministry programs. ABI graduates have gone on to be missionaries in forgeign countries, plant life-giving churches, and be men and women of God on mission with Jesus to share His love, grace, mercy, and truth to others. It is incredible to see how God has sovereignly directed ABI from before its beginning until today. Proverbs 3:5-6 has been ABI’s anchor while doing what God commanded His church to do – make disciples of Jesus and teach the Bible (Matthew 28:19-20).
