Serving in Central Asia
"ABI changed my life forever! The staff and teachers' love of God, and His word was inspiring. God's word was taught with power.
ABI's beautiful settings in Homer left me awestruck by God's creation. We students learned to commit our lives to God even more, as well to eachother. A passion to reach the lost was passed on to me, which I'm literally taking with me to the ends of the earth!"

Serving the blind in the Philippians

"Many years ago, after a long fishing season, I found myself in Homer, with no place to stay and with winter coming. While wandering through town I stepped into the Lion and the Lamb Bookstore and heard that there were vacant apartments available up at the Alaska Bible Institute. Although I did have a restlessness in my soul, and a desire to learn more about God, I wasn’t interested in Bible school. But I was running out of options, and the rent was cheap, so I decided to take the offer until I could find something more suitable.

For the next couple of months I scoured Homer looking for another apartment for the winter. I don’t know how the Lord did it, but there was absolutely nothing available that fall in Homer. Finally, Ray came down to my apartment one evening and explained that school was about to start and that one of their policies was that anyone staying in the apartments would have to attend classes. Even though I had absolutely no interest in Bible school I realized that if I agreed to attend, it would keep them happy until I could find an apartment in town. So I stayed.

What happened in the next few weeks is a story of a young man being led gently out of the dark into the glorious and marvelous light of the Lord. I couldn’t explain what was happening to me at the time, but from the very first day I could feel my spirit responding and being drawn by the teaching of the Word. In about two weeks time I knew without a doubt that I had found the place where my spiritual thirst could finally be quenched, and that I wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon.

Not only did I meet the Lord at ABI, I met my wife Marla there. After graduating together in 1975, we stayed on as staff members of ABI for another ten years. In 1989 the Lord led us into a ministry to the blind in the Philippines, where we have been ever since.

Looking back now, after about 35 years, we are so grateful to the Lord for bringing us to ABI and for the foundation that it laid in our hearts, both for our personal family life and for the ministry we are involved in now."
